Your Appointment

Your comprehensive eye exam will include a thorough evaluation of your visual needs and your ocular health. In order to fully evaluate your ocular health, your eyes will likely be dilated. The visit usually takes 50-90 minutes to complete. If you would like to fill out some of your paperwork prior to arriving, please click on appropriate link to print out and complete in advance.

Dilation

Dilation of the pupils involves placing drops in your eyes to make the pupil (the black spot in the center of the eye) larger. That will allow your doctor to look through the pupil and get a much better view of your lens, optic nerve, and retina to check for conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and various retinal diseases. In young children, the dilation is necessary to help your doctor better determine what glasses prescription might be needed. In most instances, your pupils will remain dilated for 2-4 hours for adults and up to 24 hours for young children. During that time, your eyes will be more sensitive to light and you will have difficulty focusing on near vision tasks. Most people are able to safely drive while the pupils are dilated, but some do not feel comfortable because of the brightness and visual changes.

Insurance

For your convenience, we accept most insurance plans (exception Humana, Spectera Vision Care and Davis Vision). It is recommended that you contact your insurance company prior to the appointment to determine your vision benefits and to confirm that our doctors are providers in your network. Please bring your current medical and vision insurance cards with you to the visit. Our staff will also confirm your coverage while you are in our office.
If we are unable to confirm coverage or we are not a provider under your particular plan, payment in full for all services is due at the time of the visit.
