Our evaluation begins with a very detailed sensory motor exam. Any additional information such as school performance testing, prior eye examination records and therapy reports are extremely helpful for the doctor to review before your visit. Expect your visit with the doctor to last 1-2 hours.
Vision therapy is a progressive program of vision procedures performed by a therapist, supervised by the doctor and individualized to fit the visual needs of the patient. “VT” is conducted weekly in 30 minute in-office sessions and supplemented with procedures done at home between office visits. Some visual conditions cannot be treated adequately with glasses, contact lenses and/or patching, and are best resolved through a program of Vision Therapy.
What is Vision Therapy?
Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised, treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and perceptual-cognitive deficiencies. Vision Therapy sessions include procedures designed to enhance the brain’s ability to control:
- eye alignment,
- eye teaming,
- eye focusing abilities,
- eye movements, eye tracking and/or
- visual processing (including visualization, directionality, and visual perception skills).
Visual-motor skills and endurance are developed through the use of specialized computer and optical devices, including therapeutic lenses, prisms, and filters. During the final stages of therapy, the patient’s newly acquired visual skills are reinforced and made automatic through repetition and by integration with motor and cognitive skills.
